What drew you to support HandsOn in such a committed way?

I was drawn to how HandsOn can help a broad spectrum of NGOs in need, rather than focusing on one specific cause. An NGO to help NGOs, connecting them to a valuable resource – volunteers – to me is a very meaningful service.

What advice would you have for someone looking to try volunteering--whether on a board or otherwise--especially for someone who would like to use their skills for good?

I would say it would be great to find something that you are already passionate about or a service or activity that you would have done already. To be able to use your skills to help someone in need – whether it is learning English or writing a proposal, I think provides a much deeper and long lasting engagement then simply doing an adhoc activity just in the name of volunteering.

Can you share your thoughts on the role you see volunteers playing in COVID-relief efforts and as we move to rebuild Hong Kong?

I think HandsOn has done a great job in mobilising volunteers first in donation (fundraising) and preparing and distributing survival packs to the needy. The continual provision of face masks and hand sanitisers are important for HK to rebuild to ensure that these essential elements to fight the virus are available to our whole society, and not just for those who can afford them. Without these protection items, we will not be rid of this virus for a long time.

When a vaccine is available, it is also paramount that the access to the vaccine is for all, and not for those who can afford it. Volunteers can help with ensuring when the vaccines are available to help in a fair distribution in our society.
