Communications Manager (paid part-time maternity contract)

The Communications Manager for HandsOn Hong Kong (HOHK) will oversee marketing and communications for the organisation while the Associate Director is on maternity-leave. They will manage all external communications which drive volunteer engagement and recruitment for 150 service programs each month—in support of 100 nonprofit partners. This role is ideal for an individual with a strong background in copywriting and a passion for community service and involvement. 

Contract period

  • The role is for 2.5 days per week from the start of June 2019 until early January 2020.

  • The selected candidate can combine working in-office in Lai Chi Kok with remote working, if desired.

  • Option for reduced hours / working fully remotely in July, a quieter month for the organisation.

Main duties

  • Manage communications which drive volunteer recruitment and engagement in support of the HOHK monthly calendar of volunteer programs.

  • Develop content for all HOHK communications as needed with a primary focus on social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) and twice-a-month newsletters.

  • Manage the scheduling for all social media and newsletters, utilising deployment tools for broadcasting. 

  • Liaise closely with the Volunteer Service Executive regarding volunteer recruitment needs and programs for spotlighting in communications.

  • Support the HandsOn team onsite at meetings and events as relates to the Communications Manager role.

  • Provide copywriting and editing support for HOHK events, fundraisers, websites and grant submissions as required.

  • Basic experience using Adobe Illustrator desired but not essential:  For updating content and layouts for existing design collaterals on ad hoc basis.


  • Professional English copywriting experience — writing samples will be requested

  • Passion for community involvement 

  • Strong team and interpersonal skills
