Blackstone - Organic Farm with Elderly

On 17 December, a team of 32 volunteers from Blackstone spent a joyful morning with the elderly from Tin Shui Wai. They went to an organic farm in Fanling and experienced various tasks including making organic bread, making recycled paper and simple farming. They have learnt a lot about healthy organic lifestyle at the farm. At last, Blackstone also generously sponsored a dim sum lunch, marking an unforgettable end to this day.

Telstra - Renovating the Dormitory of a Special School

On 23 November, a team of 38 volunteers from Telstra went to the dormitory of a special school which serves physically disabled teens. Knowing the needs of the teens, the volunteers paid extra effort to help renovating the dormitory by putting up reflective stickers on the windows of the bedrooms, and installing wooden boards inside rooms as protective layers. They also enjoyed chatting and meeting the teens during the lunch. The children are thrilled to have an improved living environment! Thank you Telstra for all the hard work!

Credit Suisse - Career Coaching Session for Disabled Teens

On 18 October, a team of 17 volunteers from Credit Suisse escorted a group of 26 physical disabled teenagers to their office at ICC. Three speakers from the company shared their job experiences and tips for job interviews. All the volunteers also acted as interviewers to conduct a mock interview with the teenagers. The activity was aimed at providing an opportunity for the disabled teenagers to gain more career guidance and they all learnt a lot from the volunteers. Thank you Credit Suisse!

Norton Rose & Credit Suisse - Mid-Autumn Festival with the Elderly

To celebrate this traditional Chinese festival, we have cordially organized two celebrating events for the elderly. Two groups of volunteers went to two different elderly centres to make the delicious icy moon cakes and had fun games with the elderly.

On 8 September, a team of 20 volunteers from Norton Rose visited an elderly centre in Mong Kok. After making the icy moon cakes, the volunteers and the elderly enjoyed a sweet teatime with snacks and had a great chat.

On 14 September, a group of 15 volunteers from Credit Suisse went to an elderly centre in Sham Shui Po and met a group of 50 elderly. We have also invited a team of women volunteers as the instructors to teach them making moon cakes, they are all from one of our NGO partners in Tin Shui Wai.

Telstra - Fun Day at Organic Farm

On 5 September, a team of 40 volunteers from Telstra went to a farm in the New Territories where they helped remove weeds and build small gardens for the Chinese herbs. The produce grown on the farm will be used in the social-enterprise restaurants and shops that support people with mental illness in Hong Kong. Volunteers learned about issues facing people with mental illness, as well as farming in Hong Kong. The enthusiastic volunteers worked hard throughout the day and enjoyed learning to make recycled paper which is much more eco-friendly.

Norton Rose - Magic Lesson with the Kids!

On 28 July, a team of 20 volunteers from Norton Rose became the magicians’ assistants at an integrated center in Tin Shui Wai. A group of 30 kids have participated in this summer fun magic session. Four great magicians have come as volunteers to perform surprising magic show and taught the group to play simple magic tricks. The Norton Rose volunteers have done a great job to assist and remind the kids to play the magic. Thank you Norton Rose!

Nomura - Astronomy Lesson with Kids

On 10 August, a team of approximately 50 volunteers from Nomura spent a joyful afternoon with children from an under-privileged school in Sheung Shui. The children were invited to visit Nomura’s office in the IFC and had lunch there watching the stunning harbor view. The volunteers and children took ferry from Central to Tsim Sha Tsui and had happy chats during the journey. Their final destination was the Space Museum; they enjoyed a 3D astronomy movie and had a meaningful tour around the museum. Nomura also generously sponsored buying souvenirs to every kid, marking an unforgettable end to this day.

Nomura - Painting a Primary School Campus

On 7 July, a team of 60 volunteers from Nomura volunteered at the only primary school on Lamma Island. They renovated the campus by painting murals, repainting the benches and the pavilions at the garden. Some volunteers spent time on making lovely handicrafts as gifts to the school. The big colorful mural is designed by the school students. The kids were thrilled to have their original artwork come to life on the mural walls as well as have an improved learning environment! Bank of America - Visit to an Elderly Centre

On 21 July, a team of around 40 volunteers from Bank of America spent a joyful morning with the elderly at an elderly center in Tin Shui Wai. They also visited homes of the elderly in the community. They have donated a Wii, which is a video game that enables the elderly to do exercises through fun small games. The volunteers taught the elderly how to play and cheered for them. They also played board games together. The elderly enjoyed much warmth from the volunteers.

FedEx - Refurbishing a Kindergarten

On 10 March, a team of 20 volunteers from FedEx spent a full day refurbishing a dilapidated kindergarten. Volunteers spent the morning sanding rusty fences along the school corridors of three floors and gave them a fresh coating of anti-rust primer to provide a cleaner and safer environment for the children to enjoy. With their full day of hard work, the volunteers made a meaningful contribution to the school and improved their team spirit – a learned new paintings to boot! Thank you FedEx!

GAP - Farm Day Benefitting Those with Mental Illness

On 11 October, a team of 50 volunteers from GAP went to a farm in the New Territories where they helped remove weeds, build fences and prepare the grounds for planting. The produce grown on the farm will be used in the social-enterprise restaurants and shops that support people with mental illness in Hong Kong. Volunteers learned about issues facing people with mental illness, as well as farming in Hong Kong. The enthusiastic volunteers worked hard throughout the day and enjoyed this team building experience!
