Fossil - The Adventure Ship with Kids in Need

Our amazing volunteers from Fossil spent a special day with kids in need. During a sea adventure day trip, Fossil volunteers worked hand in hand with a group of 25 reserved kids, aged from 11 to 18, to conquer challenges and fears. Both Fossil volunteers and kids showed courage and supported each other to successfully complete the adventurous tasks and challenges.

HandsOn Hong Kong would like to express our appreciation and thanks to all Fossil volunteers who took part in this activity!! Thanks for helping our kids to build the confidence to conquer any difficulties they encounter in their lives. Your kind act will spur a ripple effect of love and generosity to the next generation.

American Eagle Outfitters - Mosaic Wall & Organic Farm

On 10 June, two teams of volunteers from American Eagle Outfitters (AEO) contributed their time at two different events as part of their global "Annual AEO Better World Community Day". One team helped to finish a mosaic wall for a special school while the other team built a pavilion for an organic farm run by a social enterprise. We would like to thank all the passionate AEO volunteers for their great efforts!

Fossil - Numerous Volunteer Events

Between 6 April and 13 May 2014, 173 volunteers took part in five volunteer events organized by HOHK and contributed over 800 service hours. They helped at the HOHK Black & White Ball, visited the Science Museum with underprivileged children, enjoyed social-inclusive activities with deaf students, visited the Peak with mentally disabled children and cleaned a beach. This is the second year that HOHK and Fossil have worked together to help the local community, and we look forward to further meaningful collaboration soon!

Jones Day - Adventure Camp with a Social Enterprise

On 5 December, a team of volunteers from law firm Jones Day participated in an adventure camp together with the eco-tourism team from New Life Farm (a social enterprise which provides occupational training for people recovering from mental illness). They completed many exciting challenges such as crossing rope bridges and climbing over frames. Through these activities, staff from the farm had a valuable opportunity to enhance their confidence and communication skills. Both sides brought great team spirit to the event and gained satisfaction by successfully completing the High Rope Course.

Pernod Ricard - Rice Dumplings for Elderly

On 21 May 2013, nearly 70 volunteers from Pernod Ricard made traditional Chinese Rice Dumplings for the elderly living in Tin Shui Wai. They were taught how to make the treats by a team of underprivileged women and also attended a session led by HOHK introducing the social issues of Hong Kong's ageing population. They packed 70 gift bags containing food, daily necessities as well as the rice dumplings, and visited the homes of the elderly to deliver them in person. The volunteers were delighted by the opportunity to help the elderly and the day was full of warmth and love!

Hasbro - Day of Joy in Hong Kong and Shenzhen

On 6 December 2013, Hasbro employees from both Hong Kong and Shenzhen celebrated their annual Day of Joy to spread happiness to children in need in the local community. This was part of a global initiative by the company. More than 300 volunteers in Hong Kong went to five different special schools serving physically and mentally disabled children. Volunteers took part in activities including egg and spoon races with the students, learning sign language together, board game sessions, cooking sessions, painting classrooms and preparing gift parcels. The Shenzhen team of almost 200 volunteers worked at a local center for disabled children packing gift parcels and making greetings cards for the kids. In all, 509 volunteers took part, with a total of 1,259 service hours.

Pernod Ricard - Volunteers Renovate an NGO Centre

On 29 November, nearly 70 volunteers from Pernod Ricard went to The Life Building Center run by Mission To New Arrivals. The center is housed in a former village school in a remote area in Fanling and was in poor condition due to its age and lack of maintenance. The volunteers did some significant renovations including repainting the basketball court, building new facilities and repainting the activity rooms. Their successful refurbishment of this community center will greatly benefit the local population.

Blackstone - Volunteers Decorate a School for Disabled Children

On 19 Oct, 45 volunteers from Blackstone decorated and renovated a school for disabled children in Kwai Fong including painting and creating a Moisac mural. Volunteers, thank you for your enthusiasm and hard work in bringing a better and lovelier environment for the children!

Nomura - Volunteers Renovate the Dormitory of HK Sea School

On 9 and 17 September, 2 groups of volunteers from Nomura helped to renovate the dormitory of the Hong Kong Sea School. 26 volunteers completed the base painting of the walls in one day and then another 56 volunteers spent a day painting all the internal walls with top coats. Thank you Nomura for all the hard work - you have improved the living environment for the students staying there!

Barclays - Interns Enjoy Organic Farm Day with Kid

Many thanks to the 29 volunteers from Barclays who went to the organic farm with a group of under-privileged kids on 26 July. The volunteers played ice-breaking games with the kids at the beginning. Despite the rainy weather, they enjoyed different tasks including making recycled paper, organic soap and small plant pots. The kids were all happy to bring their organic products home and they wrote thank you notes to the volunteers at last.

Mitsubishi - Dragon Boat Festival with the Elderly

Many thanks to the 27 volunteers from Mitsubishi UFJ Securities who visited an elderly center in Jordan on 7 June. The volunteers played games with the elderly to break the ice and get to know each other. The group then helped the elderly to make rice dumplings for the Dragon Boat Festival. For most of the volunteers it was their first experience of making rice dumplings. The elderly had a wonderful time and were delighted to share the afternoon with the volunteers.

Nomura - Fun on the Farm with Underprivileged Children

On 9 March, a group of nearly 40 Nomura employee volunteers enjoyed a day out at New Life Organic Farm with 40 kids from a children’s home. The day stared with a tour around the farm where the volunteers and children learned about agriculture and environmental issues. The children and volunteers then worked together in groups planting small organic plants in pots, and making organic herbal cookies. This special day was filled with new experiences for both the Nomura volunteers and the children.

Telstra - Career-Coaching Workshop for Teenagers

On 15 March, over a dozen staff from the legal team of Telstra took part in a productive career-coaching day for students from the Haking Wong Institute of Vocational Training. The students who took part are ethnic minorities and are concerned that they will face difficulty in finding a job due to language barriers. The volunteers and students started the day by spending the morning at Dialogue in the Dark, where they took part in a special workshop that took place in total darkness. This workshop served as a great ice-breaker and useful tool for participants to learn how to cope in the face of adversity. After a pizza lunch at the students’ campus, the Telstra team gave a presentation about CV writing skills and tips for job interviews. The session was rounded off with mock job interviews. The students felt they gained tremendous value from the day and appreciated all that they learned from the Telstra volunteers.

Fossil - 1,000 Hours of Volunteer Service

Nearly 240 staff from Fossil participated in seven volunteer events between 15 January and 7 February. Altogether they contributed approximately 1,000 service hours! Fossil staff participated in various volunteer activities including helping to sort donations at Crossroads; house cleaning for the elderly; beach cleaning; visiting an organic farm with underprivileged children; agricultural work at an organic farm; visiting Geopark with mentally disabled children; and helping families in need by collecting surplus fresh bread in the city. This wide variety of voluntary work has addressed a range of needs and benefitted many people in need in our community. Thank you for giving back in such a meaningful way, Fossil!
