Corporate Community Engagement Programs 2015

Hasbro – Contributions from Kind and Enthusiastic Hasbro Volunteers

We have proudly partnered with Hasbro, Inc. for 3 years now. Hasbro volunteers have constantly been amazing with our children with intellectual disability. Nearly 450 volunteers from Hasbro participated in 9 varied volunteering activities around Hong Kong to bring joy, love and care to children with special needs. Some children learnt handicraft skills by making Christmas decorations in a creative workshop; some children went out to an animal farm and a Chinese Temple for an educational tour, some children had a city hunt around Hong Kong to learn how to find their way around and use the transportation system. Hasbro also generously donated their signature toys to every child as a gift for the Christmas festivities.

AXA - Elderly Lip Balm Workshop

15 volunteers from AXA attended a creative workshop to make lip balm with a group of 20 elderly. Both volunteers and elderly participants received a simple chemistry lesson and made a lip balm for winter use. The elderly enjoyed and treasured the interaction with the AXA volunteers. Thanks AXA for putting a smile on our elderly's faces.

Haitong – Bring Warm to Elderly during Xmas Visit

Staff from Haitong International visited elderly living alone in town to bring gift packs and love through HandsOn Hong Kong's corporate volunteering program. Thanks Haitong International's volunteers for brightening up the day for our elderly.

NewQuest Capital – Renovation of Organic Farm

Many thanks to all volunteers from New Quest Capital who visited an organic farm in Fanling to give support to environmental causes. 16 volunteers helped with facilities maintenance, one insect net was installed and a set of irrigation systems was built.

Fossil – Wetland Park with Mentally Disabled Kids

53 volunteers visited Wetland Park in Tin Shui Wai with mentally disabled children, enjoying a fun day completing simple tasks and eating lunch together. The day was enjoyable for all, especially for the 37 kids who loved being outside on such a lovely sunny day. They were able to admire the beautiful scenery and wildlife the park has to offer, whilst interacting with the volunteers who delighted in spending their time with such wonderful children. The volunteers spent a total of 318 hours helping the children with their tasks at the park.

American Eagle – Making Rice Dumplings with Mentally Disabled Kids

In May 2015, volunteers from HandsOn Hong Kong visited the same school in Kwai Chung in which they helped to create a mosaic in 2014. This time, the 21 volunteers worked with kids with intellectual disabilities to make rice dumplings in preparation for the Dragon Boat Festival. The day began with an ice-breaking activity, which brought the volunteers and the 30 kids together, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. Everyone was then split into small groups to make the dumplings together. The children made a total of 220 rice dumplings over the course of the day! It was a wonderful experience for everyone, and the children were able to feel part of a team, whilst learning new skills and interacting with our volunteers who had just as much fun!

Trinseo – Rice Dumplings Delivery to Elderly

In June, 30 HandsOn Hong Kong volunteers came together to help the elderly by delivering rice dumplings and gifts to their homes. The volunteers were first briefed on the situation of the local elderly, where many were surprised by how little interaction some elderly people have with others. A lot of the elderly in Hong Kong live alone, and so cherish the moments they are able to spend with our friendly volunteers, especially when they’re also receiving gifts! Groups of three volunteers visited each home, and both the volunteers and the 33 beneficiaries really appreciated their time together.

Amex – Elderly Birthday Party

It is a wonderful opportunity to spend time with the elderly, and in June, 28 volunteers from HandsOn Hong Kong were able to spend their day enjoying a birthday lunch with 80 elderly residents, assisting in various tasks and chatting to them. It is a joyous occasion for the beneficiaries, who truly appreciate the interaction time they receive with our lovely volunteers, and who are able to enjoy their celebratory lunch together. After the birthday lunch, volunteers accompanied the elderly to the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, where everyone learnt about Hong Kong history, specifically Bruce Lee, which everyone particularly enjoyed.

Amex – Home Visit to Elderly

There are many underprivileged elderly in Hong Kong who live alone and spend a lot of time without interacting or communicating with others. In June, HandsOn Hong Kong sent 28 of their volunteers to the homes of 27 elderly to deliver gift care packages to each. Whilst there, they were able to chat with and entertain the elderly residents, brightening their day with gifts of cookies, towels and other offerings. Everyone involved had a brilliant time together, especially the elderly who relish the time they are able to laugh, chat and interact with HandsOn volunteers.

Moody's – HOHK's Long-term Corporate Volunteering Partner

Being our long-term corporate volunteering partner, Moody's volunteer teams have been working hard by getting involved in community service. This year, Moody's took part in 14 volunteer programs with around 240 volunteers and a total of over 700 hours achieved. Their programs included environmental schemes, to help to clear beaches and promote recycling and also raise awareness about the need to care for our environment. Moody's have also worked with mentally disabled and special needs children, in order to involve them and engage them in activities, and with the elderly, who mostly live alone and really appreciate the time they get to spend with volunteers who love to chat with them. Many thanks to the Moody's team for all their excellent work!

GLG – Helped the Environment

GLG did their own part for the environment by teaming up with Clean the World to recycle slightly used soaps from hotels. 25 volunteers took part in the activity and helped to recycle a total of 330kg of soap. This soap is then delivered to less developed places or to elderly and children homes for their use. Such a small act can make a big difference to the cleanliness of our world, so our appreciation goes out to the 25 GLG volunteers who took the time out of their busy lives to help the environment.

Christie's – Visit to Heritage Museum with Underprivileged Kids

20 volunteers from Christie's led 38 underprivileged kids to visit a Heritage Museum. The Sheng Kung Hui St. Christopher's Home houses these children and provides them with basic care, but they are still limited in their opportunities to experience a regular childhood. A visit to the Heritage Museum gave them a sense of the history and culture of our community, and gave them the chance to interact with others (i.e. the Christie's volunteers) outside of the home.

International SOS – Outing with Students to Organic Farm

HandsOn Hong Kong was delighted to partner with International SOS for an outing that benefited 30 children with intellectual disabilities. 15 volunteers, from International SOS, accompanied these 30 kids to an organic farm. There, they learnt how to make traditional Hakka cakes and planted pots of plants. The volunteers were extremely helpful in supporting and praising the children throughout the day, and the children were able to benefit from what truly was a fun and learning experience.

Morgan Stanley Soup Delivery to the Elderly

As part of the Morgan Stanley Global Volunteer Month (#MSGivesBack), 40 volunteers from Morgan Stanley partnered with HandsOn Hong Kong to visit the underprivileged elderly. Volunteers delivered warm soups and visited elderly residents living alone. Thanks to Morgan Stanley's volunteer team for bringing laugher and joy to the elderly.

Fossil – Elderly Farm Outing

A big thank you to the Fossil team for volunteering with HandsOn Hong Kong again in 2015. Underprivileged elderly have a limited social life and seldom have the chance to take part in outings. Fossil's volunteers put a smile on faces of 50 underprivileged elderly by taking them to visit an organic farm. Fossil's volunteers turned an ordinary day into a special fun and meaningful day for our elderly. At the program, both the elderly and the Fossil team got a hands-on experience of farming and traditional Chinese cake making.

Timberland – Beach Cleaning and Organic Farm Renovations

Many thanks to the Timberland team for volunteering with HandsOn Hong Kong. Timberland made a valuable contribution to our environment by cleaning a beach and helping out with renovations at an organic farm staffed by people recovering from mental illness. 130 Timberland volunteers collected approximately 100 bags of trash from the beach, cleared out an activity room and painted a 400m road at the organic farm.

Montblanc – Help at an Organic Farm

Many thanks to the Montblanc team for volunteering with HandsOn Hong Kong. Montblanc made a valuable contribution to the community by making leather cardholders for underprivileged kids and gardening at an organic farm.

Hasbro – Outing with mentally disabled and underprivileged children

On 4 December 2014, our amazing volunteers from Hasbro, Inc. spent a day with mentally disabled and underprivileged kids. Nearly 550 volunteers from Hasbro participated in 8 varied volunteering activities in Hong Kong and Shenzhen including a joint school sports day, a handicraft workshop, a gift wrapping and Christmas card making workshop and game playing.

Hasbro also generously donated more than 500 toys to our kids as a gift for the Xmas festivities.
