Each year, HandsOn Hong Kong celebrates International Volunteer Day—a UN General Assembly mandated day to recgonize the power and potential volunteers have to effect positive change in their communities. As Hong Kong's leading volunteer hub, HandsOn marks the occasion each year by convening a high-level, forward-looking discussion on the role of individuals and companies in meeting social needs.

On International Volunteer Day 2018 our team launched the findings of a Hong Kong-wide study, undertaken with our pro bono research partner Nielsen, to examine the impact of volunteering on an individual's mental health and wellness. The program also featured practical insights from business leaders on leveraging volunteer programs to foster wellness in the workplace.

The Nielsen study reported that volunteering contributes to individuals' confidence and self esteem, with 83 percent of respondents reporting a positive impact on mental health and well-being. The study, which was profiled in the South China Morning Post also showed how employee volunteering can increase productivity and foster a greater sense of belonging to the company.

Thank you to the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel for generously hosting our International Volunteer Day breakfast each year.
