Deliver Care Packages to elderly with chronic illness in SMP

Description: Despite the sense of cautious optimism in the air, many of Hong Kong's citizens continue to suffer from the devastating impact of this past year, and ongoing needs within the community. Even before COVID 1 in 5 of our citizens was living in poverty, surviving on less than HK$4,000 each month.

Support from the larger Hong Kong community is needed to help our most vulnerable groups, and the charities that support them. Part of the burden on these individuals and families, can be eased through the delivery of food packages brought directly to their doorsteps by caring volunteers.

Volunteers are needed to help assemble and deliver these Care Packages to elderly with chronic illness in Sau Mau Ping-helping to provide food assistance that receipients know can be counted on for that month. These packages are being allocated to households identified as being in need of long-term food assistance and support.

Volunteer roles:
  • Volunteers will receive a short briefing upon arriving at the community centre.
  • Volunteers will collect and pack the grocery items and other necessities from a local elderly centre.
  • Two volunteers will form a team to deliver care packages to the households. After leaving the package on the elderly individual’s doorstep, the volunteer will knock on the door to inform them before leaving.

Volunteer safety: Centre staff and volunteers will adopt HandsOn Hong Kong COVID-19 safety precautions in-line with Centre for Health Protection guidelines. If you have any questions regarding this service, please directly email to hohk@handsonhongkong.org

Hygiene protocols applied for all volunteers as below:
  • Volunteers must fulfil the COVID-19 vaccination dosage requirement under the Vaccine Pass implemented by the Government.
  • Volunteers must present a negative COVID-19 rapid testing result taken on the same day before the volunteering activity.
