Internship/ Volunteer opportunity to support Hong Kong’s first-ever service marathon

HandsOn Hong Kong (HOHK) is a registered charity mobilizing and empowering the community to meet pressing social needs in Hong Kong through volunteer services. Founded in 2007, HOHK runs more than 100 volunteer activities each month, serving a broad range of organizations and causes including children and youth, elderly people, refugees, migrants, ethnic minorities and people with disabilities.

HOHK is looking for interns to support the team in the planning and execution of the first-ever Serve-a-Thon Hong Kong, taking place in May 2017. This ‘service marathon’ brings together individual and corporate volunteers, NGOs and civil society in collaboration to raise public awareness around the importance of collective community engagement in helping to address social issues.

Duties:

Main responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with the development and implementation of various aspects involved in the nine-day service 'event';
  • Communication and follow up work with key partners, including volunteers, NGOs, corporates, government, sponsors, media partners;
  • Participating in and helping develop service activities;
  • Assisting with production of materials, including t-shirts, signage, promotional pieces;
  • Maintaining and monitoring website content, including registrations;
  • Contribute to social media campaign posts;
  • Liaise with participants to capture content;
  • Supporting operational and administrative functions to ensure overall success.

Skills required:

  • Interest and studies in related fields, including: marketing, communications, public relations, events, sociology, social work, public administration;
  • Passion about community involvement and committed to HOHK’s mission of service;
  • Well organized, dependable and able to manage and prioritize a variety of tasks with minimal supervision;
  • Enthusiasm with a 'can-do spirit';
  • Proficient in computer application (including Microsoft Office, English and Chinese word processing if possible);
  • Knowledge of social media applications (Facebook, LinkedIn) useful;
  • Good command of written and spoken English and Cantonese;
  • Available 1-2 days per week for a period of four months.
