NGO mission and description of organization’s work

The FOCUS mission is to improve the education of children who are challenged by Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD) by providing accurate evidencebased information and support for parents and professionals in education and healthcare and by promoting public understanding of how learning differences impact youth both emotionally and academically.

FOCUS seeks to create a welcoming community of parents and professionals who share the experience of supporting children with mainstream learning differences such as ADHD and dyslexia.

Our goal is to help bring academic and life success to children and young adults with AD/HD or SpLD by raising awareness amongst parents and educators of what it means to have a mind that learns differently.

Impact of skills-based volunteer support on NGO and mission

Our mission is to bring accurate, evidence-based information to the parent and professional community and to raise awareness and understanding of the impact of mainstream learning differences such as ADHD and dyslexia on students’ academic and emotional lives.

About 15% of all students have mainstream learning differences – that’s two to four students in every class – many will struggle and never be diagnosed or supported.

By enhancing our social media capabilities and enabling us to share quality video highlights of our educational sessions, FOCUS will be able to reach a wider audience with needed evidence-based information and to combat the stigma of having a mind that learns differently.

Language requirement Ability to communicate clearly in English with FOCUS team members, in social media communications and/or other forms of text.
