Description of work

Plastic Free Seas is looking for volunteers to help collect data on the usage of single-use disposable hot drink cups while staying in a coffee shop. These plastic-lined paper cups are not recyclable in Hong Kong.
What volunteers need to do:

The NGO will allocate you a district, and up to 5 coffee shops to visit during 3 different time periods: opening time till 10 am, 10 am till 3 pm, 3 pm till 7 pm.
Using the survey form provided by the NGO to will fill in specific data on your phone. Internet connection is required. 

The process is very simple:

Have a quick walk around the seating area to do a spot check. 
Fill in a short Google Form with information on the usage of hot drink cups by the people sitting in, not for takeaway.

NGO mission and description of the organization's work

Our mission is to have clean beaches in Hong Kong.  The way we aim to achieve this is through:

Education and awareness in schools of our local issues in context to the global plastic pollution problem

Corporate events to encourage participation & understanding

Action campaigns at individual, community & government level

Engaging in and fostering programs to better define and understand the impact of plastic in our marine environment.

Impact of skills-based volunteer support on NGO and mission

This data will help Plastic Free Seas to create a campaign targeting consumers and coffee shops, to encourage behavior change by consumers and action by coffee shops to reduce the use of disposable hot drink cups while 'drinking in'. The NGO will also share this information with the government so that they will have factual data on this problem for future legislation to reduce this unnecessary waste.
