Carol Assang

Can you introduce about yourself, and tell us what are you doing currently?
My name is Carol and I volunteer for the simple reason that it makes me happy. I recently moved back to Hong Kong after living abroard for over 20 years. It was a real shock to the system to be back in Hong Kong after being away for so long. Hong Kong was utterly unrecognizable to me. I even felt like a tourist in my own neighbourhood! Thankfully my bedroom remained unchanged.

How did you get in touch with HandsOn Hong Kong?
I was looking around for volunteering services and just happened to come across an article about HandsOn Hong Kong in The Standard newspaper one day. I immediately signed myself up and have kept going ever since.

What drives you to provide volunteer service to the community?
Volunteering is about giving back to the community but I believe one gets so much more in return from the experience.

What is the impact of your volunteer work?
I have met many interesting and amazing individuals through HandsOn Hong Kong and am very fortunate to call some of those individuals my friends.

Why would you recommend others to join HandsOn Hong Kong?
I know this sounds very cliched but the whole experience has been extremely fun, rewarding, and addictive.

Any interesting story or touching experience with HandsOn Hong Kong?
There is so much positive energy around that you can't help but get swept up in it as well! It is also really comforting to know that even though we live in a shark-eat-shark world, there are still a lot of wonderful people out there who share my love of volunteering. Maybe there is still hope after all....

Be the Change. Volunteer.
