Serve-A-Thon: Record financial literacy videos for low-income women EP1

This program is made possible by the funds raised by the HKEX Listing Committee.

Description: Many of Hong Kong’s women from low-income families feel overwhelmed by childcare and household responsibilities during the COVID-19 crisis. A number of these families have been impacted by job losses, with much of the extra care-giving work and family pressure falling on women’s shoulders.

HandsOn is joining forces with the 'Financial Education Centre'--run by the Hong Kong Family Welfare Society--to provide support by empowering Hong Kong's volunteers to create short financial literacy video clips for these women.

The centre promotes financial through experiential activities and "edutainment programmes" that educate while entertaining. They have found that engaging video clips are easier for families to digest, than reading lengthy materials. We invite volunteers to create short financial literacy videos that will help empower these women with some basic financial management skills and to adopt family-oriented financial planning. These role-play based videos will be less than 5 minutes long, perfect for the women to watch when they take a break. Having volunteers film and participate in these videos, also reduces the burden on stretched and under-resourced community centers forced to convert learning programs to a virtual format.

Volunteer roles for Episode 1:
·      This story requires 3 adult participants, and can be easily filmed at home or the office.
