CORPORATE VOLUNTEERING 2022

HandsOn Hong Kong partners with all types of companies to collectively serve the community. Over the years, we’re proud to have partnered with more than 200 companies and their passionate volunteers. Together we have built a range of meaningful service programs for their employees, clients and our frontline charity partners. Here are a few examples of what we do together.

Volunteering from an early age has been shown to instill empathy, inspire a sense of responsibility for the world around us

Volunteering from an early age has been shown to instill empathy, inspire a sense of responsibility for the world around us, and help youngsters find a greater sense of connection with others.

These Bloomberg LP volunteers got #HandsOn with their little ones recently, contributing over 40 service hours to small-scale organic farming which included making compost and preparing garden beds for plants and worm farms.

A big thank you for giving up your time to get closer to the community.

Stuck for in-office fundraising ideas?

Stuck for in-office fundraising ideas? We love the simplicity of this concept— asking colleagues to donate a fee in exchange for a corporate headshot.

Everybody needs a great LinkedIn shot these days and for that we’re grateful as we recently received a $35k donation from staff at Macquarie Group thanks to this creative approach to fundraising.

A huge thank you to the Macquarie Group Foundation for matching employees' donations and to Georgina Adams - image box photography for sharing her skills for a good cause. Kind initiatives like these help HandsOn Hong Kong to continue our work serving the community and empowering everyone in Hong Kong to volunteer.

Organic farms are on a rise - they give us a more sustainable and healthy way to feed the planet

A team of community minded Marriott Bonvoy volunteers swapped the city for the countryside recently as they got their hands dirty composting, preparing garden beds and planting crops. All of this work promotes biodiversity, improves soil fertility and raises food quality for local communities. A huge thank you to the team for their efforts, and for always wearing a smile!

WorldCleanupDay unites millions of volunteers, governments and organisations to tackle the global waste problem

WorldCleanupDay unites millions of volunteers, governments and organisations to tackle the global waste problem and build up a new and sustainable world. Here in in Hong Kong our own HandsOn volunteers have been doing their bit for a waste-free world. Huge thank you to Allianz Partners for helping to remove plastics, metals, and other debris from our precious shorelines.

Mid-Autumn Festival is almost upon us and there are plenty of ways to celebrate the unique tradition

Mid-Autumn Festival is almost upon us and there are plenty of ways to celebrate the unique tradition as this awesome S&P Global volunteer team showed us recently!

Twenty volunteers connected “virtually’ with children of around 20 families from Yuen Long Town Hall Support Service Centre for Ethnic Minorities. Together they hand-crafted paper lanterns from recycled materials and donated them to a local community center.

We’re always moved by how powerful a program like this is. It not only helps to foster a sense of connectedness and integration of ethnic minority families into the community, it also gives these children a chance to improve their language skills and to grow their confidence in a fun, relaxed, and creative environment. Big thanks to S&P Global for getting involved!

Serve-a-thon 2022: a blueprint for how businesses can improve their communities one “volunteer day” at a time

Hong Kong companies came together to support local causes; thirty businesses including Community Champions Johnson & Johnson, and Marriott Bonvoy, put their people and resources into supporting grassroot organisations during a nine-day community volunteering drive. Highlights include area clean ups – both beaches and popular hiking routes; soap recycling and distribution to underserved families; and delivering necessities to isolated elderly. Our staple “virtual programs” also featured, as volunteers took the time to teach English to school children, take part in mindful ‘zentangle’ drawing sessions for better mental health, and prepare ‘inspiration jars’ to help lift local communities. Thank you to everyone that gave their time during our community service week.

With the Covid-19 outbreak constantly evolving, we are all living with so much uncertainty

With the Covid-19 outbreak constantly evolving, we are all living with so much uncertainty. The importance of mental health has really come into focus and supporting each other is a priority. Here’s a throwback to two special programs focused on emotional support and connection with volunteers from S&P Global. HandsOn recently empowered their team to show kindness and care to a group of ethnic miniority children by making beautiful handmade notebook covers and bookmarks especially for them. Before Christmas their volunteers also created aroma sachet bags as gifts for people recovering from mental health episodes to show how much they care. The lavender properties in these sachet bags help to calm and relax. Thank you to all involved!

Staying connected to your community and each other is so important in time likes these

The team from RPC managed to do both today when they got #HandsOn from their homes or office to make eco-friendly soaps with our team. All made from natural products without any harmful chemicals, and containers will be re-used and returned to our workshop trainer. These thoughtful CNY gifts will be delivered by our team to seniors supported Harmony Garden Lutheran Centre for the Elderly, along with a special video greeting filmed by every volunteer.

Hongkongland is passionate about giving back in every community they have a presence

And so they worked with HandsOn to deliver a volunteer event in Singapore. HCSA Dayspring Residential Treatment Centre’s teenage girls recovering from trauma and abuse spoke to Hongkong Land’s compassionate and supportive volunteers about potential career paths and job opportunities that exist globally Volunteers from different functions across Hongkong Land's Singapore and South East Asia offices formed a virtual 'human library' to share their professional journeys with the girls--followed by a practical session on the basics of CV writing and interview preparation! Thank you all for being a part of such a ChangeMaking program.
